Milford Lake, Hunting, and Recreation

Go boating, camping, sailing, or skiing on Milford Lake. Take a stroll through Wakefield's Kansas Landscape Arboretum. Whoop it up at the PRCA-sanctioned Longford Rodeo. Play a few rounds at one of Clay Center's two, nine-hole golf courses. Go hunting on miles of public land or on private game preserves. Bring your binoculars for a day of birding on the Steve Lloyd wetlands, or spend some time canoeing and fishing on the Republican River. A variety of sports and clubs are also available including photography, arts, swimming, wrestling, baseball, and softball among others.

Clay Center Public Utility Commission Park and Zoo

The Clay Center Public Utility Commission Park and Zoo features a playground, gazebo, picnic areas, water fountain, rose garden and plenty of shade, great for weddings and reunions of any kind. Many rock features, including an old mill race, were built in the 1930’s. A new two-loop walking trail borders Huntress Creek. In the spring and summer of 2019, the zoo will add two baby bears with their own waterfall and pool; a big cat exhibit; and lemurs and more monkeys to their existing menagerie.

Rex Theatre

The 1920 neoclassical Rex Theatre has been beautifully restored to its former glory with some added modern amenities. The restoration of its original appearance in the marquee and open-air lobby, art deco plaster, leaded glass panes above the windows and doors, among others makes it an historic architectural treasure. The addition of larger and more comfortable seats and digital sound and projection equipment, and expanded restrooms enhances the experience of movies, community theater, concerts and other live performances. https://therex.online/.
